Hi, I’m Rita.
My professional journey is rooted in the transformative potential of design, technology, and sustainability. As a digital content manager at a nonprofit focused on reducing building emissions, I discovered the profound impact of human-centered design—a philosophy that became the foundation of my career and academic pursuits.
This early experience sparked a deep curiosity about how innovative design and technology can address complex environmental challenges. Driven by this passion, I pursued a master's in Communication, Culture, and Technology at Georgetown University, where I've developed a rigorous, interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving.
My graduate studies have been a space of intellectual exploration, challenging me to view complex problems through multiple lenses. In the "Gaming the System" course, I designed an interactive simulation that mapped the intricate relationship between AI innovation and energy demand. This project showcased my ability to translate complex systemic interactions into engaging, comprehensible models. The "Leading by Design" course further expanded my understanding of technology's human dimension, investigating how design principles shape our digital experiences and enhance cognitive capabilities.
At the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT), I translated my academic insights into tangible impact. As a communications professional, I enhanced website accessibility to broaden stakeholder engagement; developed multilingual policy resources to improve community connection; refreshed organizational branding to create more inviting, impactful visual narratives; and contributed to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that centered community-led policymaking.
My approach to complex social challenges blends strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, and a commitment to meaningful design. I'm particularly passionate about careers that bridge human-centered design, sustainability, and mission-driven work–fields like civic design, UX design, interaction design, and sustainable product development represent exciting frontiers where I can continue to create positive environmental and social impact. As I move forward in my career, I'm excited to challenge traditional boundaries, reimagine technological possibilities, and design solutions that are not just innovative, but genuinely transformative.
